What Makes An Effective Video Advertising Campaign?

Episode 168 Digital Marketing Podcast

Online Advertising Podcast
20 mins

This episode has a bit of a backstory to it which we thought we would share with you. Ciaran was working on the podcast schedule when by chance he was contacted by another Ciaran Rogers on LinkedIn with a very simple message “Hey Ciaran, Great Name!” Out of curiosity he looked up the sender and saw his extensive background in advertising. They got chatting and the three days later recorded this episode over Skype. What started out as a bit of fun developed into a really interesting exploration of video advertising. ( Massively helped by the time and research which Ciaran G Rogers put into the project )

This time of year we are hit with a wave of seasonal must-see Ads. It would seem every big brand wants a flagship Ad that everyone is talking about and no expense is spared to dazzle.

In this episode, we take a look at great work that works, not great work that works and ideas that seemed great that didn’t work with video Ad examples from across the globe.  Some of these advert examples we are sure you will be familiar with and some of which we hope are new to you.  The object of the exercise was to boil what we can learn down into some vital ingredients that successful video advertising has.

Spice Rack Principals For Effective Video Advertising

  • Have a true understanding of why people are buying your product and how you are positioning your product in someone’s life. Make sure this lives in reality in the minds of your customers and not just internally within your organisation or agency.
  •  Make use of emotion and give it a place in your story. Think about the emotion you want your brand to generate and make sure the story you tell elicits that emotion
  • Work hard to place your Adverts in the right place at the right time and work on making your ad buying incredibly efficient. doing this can really help with how people receive your story and maximise impact.
  • Capture the imagination of your audience and give them an opening to participate and get involved with what you are doing.

Listen in, learn and be inspired ( we hope) to go out and create great video ads for your own brands. Be sure to share them with us if you do and we can feature them in a future post. (Seriously, please do just get in touch we really would like to see what your brand or agency has been working on if it fits in with or flies in the face of these principals.)

For this episode, we recommend you take a few moments to watch the video ad examples we are discussing. So…grab yourself a hot drink, plug in your earbuds and enjoy a few moments immersing yourself in some really interesting work.
