The BBC reports on the potential TikTok ban
We have another TikTok news story below, but it may soon become irrelevant! The US House has passed a bill that could lead to the banning of TikTok in the US. The platform is already banned in India, and if the US ban goes ahead, the UK and EU could be next. Essentially, the US has told TikTok that they must divest themselves from their Chinese ownership or be banned. There are still some hurdles ahead for the law before it is enacted, but its looking increasingly likely to pass.
TikTok is focussing on helping creators create relevant content.
To amplify the growth of TikTok as the latest search engine, they have now launched Creator Search Insights, a new tool that gives creators insights into topics that people are searching for on TikTok.
Creators can use this to source inspiration for content and tailor their content to align with what people want to see more of, and is positioned well to perform.
This falls hand in hand with their Creator Rewards Program, which rewards high quality, original content with rewards, and focuses on 4 key areas; originality, play duration, search value and audience engagement. It’s focus on search value allows creators to reap more rewards for posting content that aligns with search trends.

Google has added a new section within its business listings in Google Search Results, which displays recent social media posts from your connected company page.
Google Business Profiles encouraged businesses to connect their social media profiles last year, and now have a new section called ‘Social Media Updates’ which are populated automatically based on your linked pages.
Having more in-depth social context to your business through the Google Search Results could help provide more information and generate more interest for users, so it’s best to make sure your social channels are up to date and consistent with your brand.

LinkedIn is expanding its advertising offerings
Last year LinkedIn introduced Thought Leader ads which allowed businesses to promote content of its executives and employees, to help increase reach and help meet brand goals through authentic employee experiences.
As of the end of March 2024, LinkedIn is expanding its Thought Leader ads and allowing businesses to promote content from any Linkedin user, rather than just its employees.
LinkedIn explained that “influential and trusted advocates for brands can be employees, customers and/or industry experts. The expansion of our Thought Leader Ads format to enable brands to showcase voices beyond their employees gives them a new way to reach their target audience with relevant information, like customer testimonials.”
