People are using social media platforms like TikTok for search more than ever, with 57% of users using TikTok’s search functionality and 23% of users searching for something within 30 seconds of opening the app.

TikTok’s new Search Ads Campaign enables advertisers to create keyword-based ads specifically for the search page, with full control over how the ad appears to users.

Instagram are testing links in reels for premium users

It looks like Instagram have been testing being able to add links to a reel, according to @oncescuradu on Threads. However, it seems that the feature is only available as part of the Meta Verified for Business subscription, and not for regular Instagram accounts.

With the Business Plus account, you can add two links in reels per month, with the Business Premium account you can add four, and with Business Max you can add six.

WordPress and WP Engine drama

WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg and WP Engine are in heated controversy after the WordPress founder released an article on WordPress.org, describing WP Engine as a ‘cancer to WordPress’, stating how ‘when unchecked, cancer will spread’. The article warns users that WP Engine (which is not a WordPress brand) fail to protect their customers data by automatically turning off content revisions because to save them money, which means content mistakes can’t be undone and goes against everything WordPress stands for.

WP Engine fired back with a Cease and Desist letter to WordPress, which contained text messages from Mullenweg to WP Engine’s CEO that state Mullenweg would ban WP Engine from WordPress events if it did not meet his requests, such as paying a significant part of its gross revenues on an ongoing basis, considering the amount of revenue they generate from WordPress without contributing or donating to the open-source project.

Automattic (of which Mullenweg is CEO) then sent its own Cease and Desist letter back to WP Engine on the basis that they had breached WordPress trademark usage roles.

Since, Mullenweg banned WP Engine from accessing the resources of WordPress.org, breaking a lot of websites and preventing them from updating plug-ins and themes.

TikTok rolls out delete and re-edit feature

TikTok has introduced a ‘delete and re-edit’ feature that allows users to delete and repost edited versions of their content, preserving edits created within the app and making the amendment process a lot easier and more efficient for users.

This update, eliminating the need to recreate videos from scratch, allows users to delete and report content that hasn’t gained expected traction, by editing hooks, captions or editing the video in a different way.

This is a significant update for those who edit their TikTok videos directly within the app.
